August Adopt-A-Trail Run

posted Jul 18, 2011, 9:41 AM by Michelle Nelson

(1N38 – Heart Bar Creek Trail)

We will be meeting at the Angeles Oaks store parking lot at 9:00 a.m.  Breakfast is available at the Oaks Restaurant just next door and then everyone can caravan to the trailhead from there.  Tow vehicles can be left at the Mill Creek Ranger Station at the bottom of the hill or at the Barton Flats Visitor Center (7 miles past Angeles Oaks), park outside the gate as it may be locked by the time we get back.  No Adventure Pass will be required for Adopt-A-Trail work.  This will be a one-day run.  For those interested in other runs, the club usually does go on another trail run after the clean-up is completed on 1N38.

Last year the club ended the day by going to the local steakhouse in Mentone and can do that again this year if the group wants to.

Things you should bring:

ü  Water

ü  Lunch

ü  Work Gloves

ü  Hat

ü  Bug Spray/Sunscreen

This year we may be supervised by the Forest Service and will need to bring all of our own tools to trim excess growth that protrudes out on the trail.  Items like shears and loppers would be a great help.  I have an electric reciprocating saw to cut the heavier stuff.  I don’t think any pick, shovel, or chain saw work will be required.

When we arrive at the end or top of the trail we can stop and have lunch and enjoy the view from over 8,000 feet up.
